Moving structurally from London to Jamaica, the collection traces the writer’s search for belonging and grapples with cultural eclecticism.

Peppered with condensed micro-poems, the work includes Jessica’s Aesthetica award shortlisted piece ‘reclamation’ and celebrates the diaspora as a space where new identities are forged and creativity emerges.

The Shadow of Your Lashes

The Shadow of Your Lashes

A Collection of Illustrated Micropoems on Self-Love.

By assembling vignettes and snapshots of thought, the work traces the physical and emotional journeys to self-acceptance, through healing from loss and a fragmenting relationship.

The work is divided into three parts: ‘sleep’ deals with bereavement, ‘wake’ kindles hope and ‘daydream’ reflects.  The omnipresent Caribbean becomes a main character forming the technicolour backdrop of fiery, new love and a catalyst in the protagonist's coming to consciousness.

Jamaica is not all blue skies and palm trees.

One of my favourite Jamaican sayings, “see me and come live with me”, means to know someone on face value and to know them intimately are two different things. The same can be said for the island.
